Welcome to Broadway!
Broadway has its origins all the way back to the 18th Century. It began in 1750 when Thomas Kean and Walter Murray opened a theater company on Nassau Street.
The Theatre District was one of first streets in New York to be fully illuminated by white electric bulbs in the 1890s, thus giving it the nickname “The Great White Way”.
In 2018, the Broadway League reported a whopping 14.37 million people attended a show. A total of 1,691 performances were put on, grossing over $1.825 billion!
